Media General TV Stations Earn National Murrow Awards

Richmond , Va. – Media General’s Wichita, Kan., station KWCH-TV and its Savannah, Ga., station WSAV-TV have both won national Edward R. Murrow Awards for outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. The annual awards of the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) are among the nation’s most prestigious journalism awards.

KWCH is a two-time national Murrow winner, having won the association’s award for Continuing Coverage in a small market in 2003. This year, the station won in the same category for its investigative series that examined questionable practices in Wichita’s City Hall.

WSAV received the News Series award for its News 3 at 6 evening newscast.

“We’re thrilled to see our stations honored this way,” said Reid Ashe, Media General’s president and chief operating officer. “The distinguishing feature of Media General’s television stations, just as its websites and newspapers, has to be strong local news. That’s at the heart of our mission and that’s our competitive edge.”

KWCH and WSAV were among seven Media General television and online enterprises that won 15 regional Murrow awards in April.

The RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that pioneer reporter Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
